Maya was originally developed for the IRIX operating system, but as its popularity increased among designers it was ultimately ported to all the major operating systems: Windows, Mac and Linux. Acquired by Autodesk in 2006, this integrated node-based 3D software suite has been used by visual effects artists everywhere, from 3D games to Oscar winning movies like Lord of the Rings and King Kong. Maya offers advanced 3D capabilities such as Maya fluid effects for realistic fluid simulation, Maya Cloth, a toolset for creating natural fabrics, particles, hair and fur and Maya Live for camera motion tracking.
