Bridging The Gap Between Mobile and Web
One example of Sourcebits’ ability to develop across multiple platforms is a mobile security application we built for an enterprise client for both iOS and Android, including a fully realized web-based portal for app management. With Android's open platform and iOS’ restrictions, the challenge was to create a set of features and UI that would not only complement both platforms, but excel individually based on each platform’s strengths.
Sourcebits carefully designs applications from the ground up to ensure they're completely optimized for their host platforms. We never port an existing interface onto another OS as-is. For this enterprise solution, Android and iOS developers worked together alongside the design team to understand which security features could (and couldn’t) be implemented on each platform. Designing the app without a complete understanding of both platforms’ capabilities and limitations would have led to holes in the UI, with features that worked on one platform, but not the other.
One of the bigger challenges was implementing the web portal to manage both apps, each with their own unique features. The simple yet ingenious solution was to create a dynamic site that tailored itself to the particular mobile platform being managed. The result was a complete, rich user experience that flawlessly controlled apps on both platforms.
